The Aftermath

Accident at Action Dragway Quick 16

During the second round of qualifying, the throttle came back on at the end of the track just as I was turning onto the return road. At that point I was too far into the turn to make it to the sand trap on far left of the track. With the end of the track and the far corner of the return road being used as pit space, there was no where else to go but through the fence, over the county road and into the ditch on the far side. They tell me I flipped twice, did a figure eight in the air, and then nosed into the deep ditch on the far side ending upside down and spinning. I remember the fence and watching the left front wheel and nose go into the dirt, as well as seeing green grass two times. I do not know about the figure eight though. Upon getting out of the dragster, I remember my mouth was positively full of dirt, and I had to spit it out before I could say I was O.K.

No else was hurt during the accident and I barely missed hitting a light pole while going through the fence. By the way, I took the chain link fence with me and it ended up wrap around the rear axle, between the tire and the frame.

A large crowd of racers and spectators cheered as I climbed out of the ambulance and made my way back to out pit area. They were all just so wonderful! It made me feel lucky to be a part of the Drag Racing World.

I would like to thank everyone who helped out, the safety crew and track personnel were just GREAT and our fellow racers could not have been more helpful. Even a gentleman in the parking lot across the road came to my assistance when he saw the accident. I never got his name, but I want to thank him anyway.

THANK YOU ALL
