On this page, I would like to share with you, some of the personal
things that happen when we go Quick Racing. The people and the places, have
their own unique memories that we take with us.
Terre Haute, In. 1996
During the Super Quick 32, we discovered that our transbrake button had passed away. An untimely death. We sure needed that button. We went next door to the trailer of Tom Stultz. He had just what we needed, and we were able to get ready for the next pass.
Just a note: We will start the 2001 season, using that very same transbrake button. (Oh, Oh....<me knocking on wood>)
Bowling Green, Ky. 1997
We pulled the dragster off of the trailer and fired up to warm the motor and do a final test on the electronics before making a 1st qualifying pass. We heard a horrible "tinging" noise that accelerated with the engine rpms. So under the dragster Kenneth went. We had a broken torque converter bolt. We had no spares. Kenneth went looking at the other Quick 32 competitors trailers and was able to find one at the trailer of Tommy Radloff. He and his Father, were kind enough to give us a one. Tho it was the wrong head size, we appreciated the gesture.
We were lucky enough to find the right size at another trailer. Then I went out and got to discover the beauty of the Kentucky blue sky. By pulling an 8 foot high wheelstand, I found that the gorgeous rolling hills of that state are awesome. But, as with all things that go up, they do come back down. And we were done for the day. Aspirins for everybody!
Evansville, In. 1998
We had just put another set of tires on our rims the
day before we were to leave. After the first pass, we found that the tires
had moved, a great deal, on the rims. O.K, they should make themselves at
home. Not a problem right? Wrong. One of the inner liner tubes gave up during
the process. They were equalizing. That meant that we could not hold the
tire on the rim, at an acceptable pressure level. Great, we were #2 qualifier
and hoped that we could still get the #1 position. Ottie Tuttle, another
Quick 32 competitor, was unable to fire his dragster, so was sitting out
the event to catch the fireworks at 9pm. He runs the same size as we do 17
x 36, Top Fuel tires. He saw that we were having trouble and asked if we
would like to try his. Talk about a life saver. These tires are as big as
they get. And so is Otie's heart.
These are just a few of
the personal touches that makes Quick Racing the family it is. We all try
to help if we can. If we can't, we try to help find someone who can.
To all of those that lend a helping hand, to any other racer in need.
THANK YOU ! !
